Our Selection of River Cruises

At Active Travel, our fascination with exotic river travel began more than two decades ago when we descended the Sepik River by dugout canoe. Now we are proud to offer the most comprehensive programme of unique river cruises including evocative rivers such as the Mekong River, Burma’s Irrawaddy and Chindwin river and the mystical rivers of India: the Ganges, Lower Ganges (Hooghly) and the Brahmaputra.

We strive to capture the essence of riverboat cruising, where the focus is on the places we visit and the people we meet along the way. Travelling with a small group of adventurers you enjoy a world away from TV and mobile phones, allowing you to experience the leisurely pace of yesteryear along with all the comforts expected in our modern world.

Importantly, our extensive knowledge and experience with river cruising and the various cruise vessels available, ensures we are regarded as the leading professionals of great river journeys in Australia, providing accurate, and appropriate advice; an important element to getting your river cruising holiday just right.

Riverboats are not at all like blue water cruises. Vessels are small (some with a maximum of just 18 passengers). You are immersed in the countryside and there is much contact with the local people. There’s no casino on board and you can escape from the TV, internet and other modern distractions. This leaves you free to discover a fast disappearing world of relaxation – one where books, conversation and the environment reign supreme. You are not confined to your boat and you can discover what lies beyond the riverbank on shore excursions with local guides to villages, markets, historic sites and national parks. It is a time to unwind, escape, relax and rediscover your world.

Cabins have two beds, modern bathrooms and a sitting area. There are sun decks, saloon lounges, a dining room and bar and delicious meals offer a variety of local and international cuisine. Best of all, you can also expect accurate, timely and honest advice based on our more than 10 years of travelling these great rivers aboard all of the vessels we feature.
